In-House Laboratory

We use premium materials and state-of-the-art equipment for our restorative dentistry services to ensure you get the best results possible.

About Our In-House Laboratory

At Miami Valley Prosthodontics we have an in-house laboratory where many of our prosthetics are made (the remaining are made in the US and Canada). Our laboratory technician, John, hand fabricates and finishes most of the ceramic crowns, implant crowns, and full arch implant prostheses. Dr. Valerie McMillan designs many prostheses digitally using advanced software. Our dental staff are able to assist by operating the equipment needed to produce temporary dentures, models, and nightguards. There are many advantages to having an in-house laboratory. One advantage is that the ceramic technician is available to help select the shade and custom color crowns, bridges, and veneers. This avoids a common back and forth (dental office to laboratory) of dental prosthetics when the highest esthetics is required. Another advantage is that the dental team is highly knowledgeable in what the dental laboratory requires. Excellent communication is the default when laboratory and dental teams work together in the same space. Our dental technician is able to see the results of each case in person which helps train his skills further. In addition, we enjoy a collaborative creative environment by working together.

John McMillan is a dental technician with more than 30 years of experience. He is known for his ability to create beautiful and unique shapes for teeth in wax and then transform the shapes into custom crowns, bridges, and veneers. He enjoys the hand made aspect of dental technology most however he incorporates digital technology when it is best. John loves to share his work online in order to help others learn and become more passionate about dental technology. He gives presentations and courses locally and internationally on the topic of ceramics, custom staining, and full-arch implant prostheses. John McMillan and his wife Dr. Valerie McMillan make a unique team in the dental field, she designs prosthetics digitally and John hand shapes, colors, and finishes them.
